Roos ruin any upset bid for Volleyball

Summit League contender Kansas City broke open close margins in the first and third sets en route to Saturday afternoon's 3-0 road victory over St. Thomas Volleyball at Schoenecker Arena. The Roos won 25-19, 15-14, 25-23.

Kansas City (15-5 overall, 6-2 Summit) hit .261 and added seven aces and 12 assisted blocks. The Roos suged late in the first and third sets to deny St. Thomas (2-17, 1-8).

Grace Anetipa had 24 assists and 11 digs and Lauren Galvin added eight kills and three aces to lead the Purple. Selena Levendoski had eight kills, Carrie Rutledge added 13 digs and Ellie Dammann had one solo and three assisted blocks.

St. Thomas starts the second round of nine Summit contests at home next Thursday night against Denver, which came into Saturday with the best record among conference teams at 15-2.

"You can see why Kansas City is 15-5, they do a lot of things really, really well," Coach Thanh Pham said. "I thought we battled, I thought we hung in there, we just couldn't come up with the key points at the times we needed. I'm super proud of our effort. We continue to improve, and that's what it's all about.

"The Summit League, we definitely have athletes in this conference, the coaching is outstanding, it's a great test for us. I'm so glad I get to do it with this group of girls. We can't wait to see what this (second) round brings for us."
