Special teams sting Men's Hockey in 6-3 road loss to Lakers

Lake Superior State rode its power-play and penalty kill units to a 6-3 win over Tommie Men's Hockey Saturday night in a CCHA contest in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
The Lakers (3-3 overall, 2-0 CCHA) closed out a hard-fought weekend sweep. In both game the Tommies were within one score in the final period.
The Lakers used a short-handed goal late Saturday in period two to snap a 2-2 tie. They added two third-period power-play goals after St. Thomas had pulled within 4-3 early in the final frame.
Grant Loven scored two goals for St. Thomas (0-6, 0-4). Coach Rico Blasi's team outshot Lake Superior 34-29 and got a pair of power-play goals by Kyler Grundy and Loven. Joey Sofo added two assists.
The Purple return to play on home ice for the first time this season next Friday and Saturday nights as they face Ferris State.
