Men's soccer caps record regular season with 1-0 win

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – For the seventh time this year, a pair of twins connected on a goal to push the Tommie men's soccer team to victory on Saturday afternoon at the Ona Orth Soccer Complex.
Senior Justin Oliver received an assist from brother Tyler in the 64th minute to defeat Bethel 1-0 and put the finishing touches on a perfect 10-0-0 MIAC record this season. St. Thomas is just the fifth team in the history of the MIAC to finish the league schedule undefeated. It is also the first time in program history the Tommies have achieved the feat.
With Saturday's win, UST now has 17 wins, the most ever in a regular season for the Purple. It now posts an overall record of 17-1-0 for the year and locked up both the MIAC regular season title and the top seed in the MIAC Men's Soccer Playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.
On Saturday, A scoreless first half saw the Tommie men out to a 4-1 shot advantage with each team putting a single shot on goal. That gave way to a 7-3 edge (5-1 on goal) for St. Thomas in the second 45 minutes for an 11-4 (6-2) total for the game.
St. Thomas' goal came from Justin Oliver with the assist to Tyler Oliver. It was the seventh time this season the twins have connected on the same goal this season. Of those seven goals, six have come with Tyler as the facilitator and Justin the scorer.
In net, junior Aidan Hogan recorded yet another shutout, his ninth solo of the year and the team's 10th, which ranks second in the MIAC behind Carleton. For Bethel, Jakob Bartels went the distance with five saves.
The Tommies will be back in action on Wednesday morning. They will wait and see how the quarterfinals play out on Tuesday and will host the lowest remaining seed Wednesday at 11:30 am at South Field.
