The Tommies fell 3-0 to the Belmont Bruins
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — St. Thomas men's soccer (4-4-2) lost to the Belmont Bruins (4-4-1) 3-0 on Friday at E.S. Rose Park. The Tommies finished with 19 shots, including seven on goal, but were held scoreless despite some golden scoring chances.
The Tommies faced a 2-0 halftime deficit after Belmont scored through Judah McCloud in the 15th minute and Nate Mefford in the 35th. The Tommies tested Brody Sucher throughout the half, forcing six saves, including attempts from Sam Moore, Lorenzo Jacon, Cian Williams, Orin Mitchell and Jacob Nokken.
Belmont pushed the margin to 3-0 in the 54th minute when Lucas Wolthers scored off Elijah John's assist, leaving the Tommies chasing the match through the rest of the second half. The Tommies generated nine shots and three corner kicks in the second period, with Nokken putting a shot on frame that Brody Sucher saved in the 68th minute. Moritz Krenc made three saves in the final 20 minutes, but the Tommies could not cut into the deficit before the match ended 3-0.
Krenc played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves. Williams finished with three shots, including one on goal and a goal-saving play early in the first half. Nokken put both of his two shots on frame. Jacon also recorded two shots on goal on two attempts.
