St. Thomas had seven hits but committed six errors and lost 8-2 to No. 7-ranked East Texas Baptist in Sunday's Silver bracket at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.

The Tommies closed 2-3 on the weekend in the season-opening games, with all three losses to nationally-ranked teams.

Saturday's games

St. Thomas split two games Saturday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. UST lost 2-0 to No. 22-ranked Alma (Mich.) and scored two runs in the top of the seventh to edge No. 17-ranked Central (Iowa), 3-2.

UST was down to its last out against Central with no runners on trailing 2-1 with it erupted for four consecutive singles to plate the tying and go-ahead runs. Jenna Bromen, Kierstin Anderson-Glass, Megan DuPuis and Brenna Walek all had two-out singles. DuPuis went 3-for-3 with a walk.

Anderson-Glass worked the final 3 2-3 innings in releief and allowed just one walk and no runs with five strkeouts. She moved to 2-0 on her young college career.

 

Friday's games

Freshman Kierstin Anderson-Glass threw a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 Friday afternoon in her collegiate pitching debut as St. Thomas opened its 2016 softball season with a 9-0, five-inning win over Methodist (N.C.) at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.

The Toms lost 3-1 to No. 20-ranked Lake Forest (Ill.) in Friday's second game.

Micaela Trainor had a three-run homer and Katie Jo Delisle and Danielle Tschann each had solo home runs to pace the Tommies' eight-hit attack against Methodist.
