Men's Basketball rolls to 16th win of season

Taylor Montero scored a game-high 17 points as No. 2-ranked St. Thomas ran its winning streak to 12 with Wednesday night's 64-52 home win over Gustavus in MIAC men's basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (16-1 overall, 11-1 MIAC) improved to 8-0 at home this season and 8-0 over a 26-day span in January. They maintain a two-game lead atop the conference with eight games left in the regular season.
Marcus Alipate scored all 13 of his points in the second half on 5-of-5 shooting. Ryan Saarela added 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Conner Nord chipped in eight points and 10 boards.
UST had just nine turnovers and shot 46 percent from the floor as it avenged its lone loss of the season, 58-55 in St. Peter on Dec. 3.
Issac Tapp scored 15 points to lead the Gusties (10-7, 6-5). Gustavus shot 43 percent from the field but converted just 1-of-6 from 3-point range.
St. Thomas led 29-21 at halftime and extended the lead to as much as 19 points in the closing minutes.
UST is home Saturday to face Augsburg (3 p.m.).
