NORTHFIELD, MInn. – The St. Thomas men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in double overtime to Carleton College on Tuesday afternoon at Bell Field. The Tommies fell by the final score of 1-0 with less than five minutes remaining in the second overtime.

St. Thomas again held an advantage in the second half, this time in corner kicks. The Tommies recorded six corner kicks compared to just two for the Knights in the half, while each team tallied four shots apiece. UST also placed a pair of shots on target to Carleton's zero. However, the Tommies were unable to score in the final 45 minutes and the game went to overtime.
In the first overtime, Carleton recorded five shots to St. Thomas' none. The Knights also held an advantage in corner kicks by the same margin (5-0). However, even with these advantages, the Knights did not put any shots on target and the two squads went to a second extra period.
One shot was all Carleton needed in the second overtime. The only shot on goal of the game for the Knights came off the foot of Branden McGarrity and found the back of the net in the 106th minute. The goal was McGarrity's sixth of the season and ended the game with the 1-0 final.
For the game, Carleton finished with an 11-8 shot advantage and a 9-7 edge in corner kicks. However, St. Thomas recorded three shots on goal to Carleton's one.
