Men's Hockey gets 7-2 win, playoff berth

Senior Andrew Kappers scored two goals and two assists to cap a seven-point weekend and the host Tommies closed the game with five unanswered goals over the final 31:00 in Saturday night's 7-2 win over Bethel in MIAC men's hockey play in Mendota Heights.
St. Thomas (14-9-2 overall, 9-5-2 MIAC) secured an MIAC playoff berth for the 26th time in the 26-year history of the format. The Toms are unbeaten in their last six games (4-0-2).
Rob Johnson assisted on the first goal to collect his 100th career point. Six different players scored the Toms' seven goals. Kappers had five goals on the weekend and now has 32 points on the season.
UST's Geoff Sadjadi had 23 saves in net. The Toms had a 47-25 advantage in shots on goal.
The Toms have a bye next week and will learn their playoff opponent in eight days.
