Tommies begin NCHC era with road series at Miami, October 30-31

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of St. Thomas men's hockey program has announced its 2026-27 National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) schedule, which includes 10 matchups against nationally ranked opponents. The Tommies open conference play on the road at Miami on Friday, October 30.

St. Thomas will host its first conference home series November 13-14, welcoming the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, who won 29 games and reached the 2026 Frozen Four. The teams met for the first time last season, with North Dakota sweeping the home-and-home series.

The following weekend, the Tommies travel to Colorado to face the reigning national champion Denver Pioneers (Nov. 20-21). Denver also won 29 games last season and defeated Wisconsin to claim its 11th national title.

Omaha is next on the schedule, as the Tommies host the Mavericks for the first time (Dec. 4-5). While the two Summit League programs have met in nearly every other sport, they have yet to face off on the ice. After that brief homestand at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena, St. Thomas returns to Colorado to take on Colorado College at Ed Robson Arena (Dec. 11-12).

Following three consecutive weekends against new conference opponents, the Tommies renew a familiar matchup with St. Cloud State in a home-and-home series (Jan. 8-9). Game one will be played in St. Paul, with game two the following night in St. Cloud. St. Thomas swept last season's non-conference series against the Huskies, 4-3 and 3-1.

North Dakota is back on the schedule January 15-16, as the Tommies return to Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks.

St. Thomas' only two-weekend conference homestand features the 2025 national champion Western Michigan Broncos (Jan. 22-23) and Miami (Feb. 5-6). Head Coach Rico Blasi previously won 398 games at Miami, leading the program to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Faceoff trips.

The Tommies face their final Minnesota opponent with a road series at Minnesota Duluth (Feb. 12-13) on the shores of Lake Superior. A home series against Arizona State (Feb. 19-20) serves as the penultimate regular-season matchup before the Purple close the slate with another home-and-home against St. Cloud State (Feb. 26-27), beginning in St. Cloud and concluding in St. Paul.

The entire NCHC Tournament will be held at the campus site of the higher seed. The best-of-three quarterfinal series is set for March 5-7. The following weekend, the five remaining teams will be re-seeded, and three games will take place. The two lowest remaining seeds will play a single-game quarterfinal Friday, March 12 at the site of the No. 1 seed. Both NCHC semifinals will take place March 13 with the No.1 seed hosting the winner of the quarterfinal game and the No. 2 seed welcoming the No. 3 seed.

The NCHC Championship game will then take place the next weekend with the highest remaining seed hosting the other semifinal winner.

The 2026-27 season will mark the fifth year of Division I competition and the first in the NCHC for St. Thomas men's hockey. The Tommies won 21 games last season, surpassing the 20-win mark for the first time, and returned to the CCHA Mason Cup Final for the second consecutive year.

St. Thomas' non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
