Men's Hockey rolls over Bethel, nears playoff spot

Andrew Kappers scored a hat trick in his 100th career game and Rob Johnson had two goals to move to 99 career points and highlight Friday night's 8-3 Tommie men's hockey win over host Bethel in Blaine.
St. Thomas (13-9-2 overall, 8-5-2 MIAC) scored four unanswered goals in the third period to secure the win and move closer to locking up an MIAC playoff berth for the 26th time in 26 seasons.
The Toms also clinched the program's 29th consecutive winning season.
Rob Philipp had two goals and one assist; Travis Baker had three assists; and Riiley Horgan had a goal and three assists. Tyrone Simcoe played the final 36:58 in goal and shut out the Royals.
The teams play again Saturday at 7 p.m. in Mendota Heights on UST's Senior Night. St. Thomas has its bye next weekend.
