Men's Hockey falls 2-1 to first-place Pipers

Beau Christian stopped 36 of 37 shots and Alex Lundbohm scored the eventual winning goal to cap a five-point weekend as first-place Hamline scored a 2-1 win over St. Thomas in Saturday night's MIAC men's hockey game in Mendota Heights.
The Tommies (10-9 overall, 5-5 MIAC) , who outshot Hamline 37-22, have dropped three in a row, including two one-goal home-ice defeats. Hamline (11-3-3, 6-0-2) remained unbeaten in the MIAC.
Brett Burgau scored a first-period goal for a 1-0 Piper lead. Andrew Kappers scored a short-handed goal for the Tommies midway through period one.
After a scoreless second period, Hamline got the go-ahead goal 1:19 into the final period by Lundbohm.
Christian had 30 saves in a shutout win over the Toms, and Saturday he added 30 saves in the final two periods.
UST plays St. Mary's next weekend -- Friday in Winona and Saturday night at home.
