Eight St. Thomas winter teams will compete in this four-day holiday weekend, all in St. Paul or Mendota Heights, with three on-campus events. Six of the games will have a live webcast.

Friday's events include a home indoor track and field meet at St. Thomas, and a home men's hockey game in Mendota Heights.

Coach Jeff Boeser's Tommies (9-6 overall, 4-2 MIAC) play 10 conference games in the next five weeks as they look to continue the program's long streak of top-three MIAC finishes and return to the playoffs. Last weekend, St. Thomas came off a 27-day layoff and lost 4-3 at UW-Eau Claire and won 3-0 at UW-River Falls.

Concordia (5-7-3, 1-2-3) scored a win and tie last January at home over the Tommies. The Cobbers, 0-4-2 this season in road games, lost 4-2 to the Toms on neutral ice back on Oct. 31. They have a win and tie at home against St. Olaf.

Men's and Women's Track and Field

The St. Thomas men's and women's track and field teams will start their 2011 seasons tonight with the debut competition in the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex Fieldhouse.

The Opener meet will include the St. Olaf women, some Tommie alumni athletes and men's and women's teams from UST and Concordia-St. Paul.

Field events start at 3:30 p.m., with track prelims set to start at 4 p.m. There's no admission charge.

It's first the on-campus track and field meet on a regulation-size 200-meter track in St. Thomas history.

Women's Hockey

The Tommies are home Saturday in Mendota Heights for a 5 p.m. game against No. 9-ranked Trinity (Ct.). That game can be seen on a live UST video webcast that can be accessed here:

Coach Tom Palkowski's team is 5-3-2 after Wednesday's 2-2 tie with UW-Eau Claire. The Tommies have allowed two or less goals in 22 of their last 26 games including nine in a row this season.

UST leads all of college hockey with a 96.2 percent rate on killing off power plays. They have allowed just one goal in the opponents' last 51 power-play chances.

Trinity (9-1-2) is unbeaten in its last eight matches but plays Friday night at ranked Gustavus.

Women's and Men's Swimming and Diving

The Tommies are home Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet against St. Catherine and Augsburg in the AARC pool.

St. Thomas sprint talent Ben Henrickson (FR-Chanhassen/Chaska) on Monday was named MIAC men's swimming and diving Athlete of the Week. He also swam the freestyle leg of the 200-yard medley relay, and his split of 20.84 anchored the team to a victory with an overall time of 1:37.38. His split was the fastest in the meet as well. That helped the Tommies beat host Gustavus 163-137 and Hamline 244-31.
