Non-Conference Football/St. Paul, Minn.

St. Norbert 35, St. Thomas 31

St. Norbert junior QB Ryan Hartman threw four TD passes in his first career start, including a 6-yarder to Dave Archibald with 43 seconds to play, to lead St. Norbert (1-0) to a 35-31 win over host St. Thomas (0-1) in non-conference football in St. Paul.

The game featured seven lead changes in the hot and humid conditions that put the heat index in the 90s. It was the first game between the teams since the 1980 season opener.

The 20th-ranked Tommies had taken a 31-28 lead with 6:33 remaining on Jake Barkley's second TD run of the game -- a 2-yarder on 3rd-and-goal.

The Green Knights then drove 70 yards in 11 plays for the winning points. They had 3rd-and-goal at the Tommie 1-yard line but had a 5-yard illegal procedure penalty. On 3rd-and-goal from the 6, Hartman hit Archibald over the middle and he battled into the end zone.

Hartman was 5-for-5 for 42 yards on the game-winning drive and completed his final nine passes of the game. Freshman RB Aljay Wren accounted for 45 yards on the game winning drive, including a 22-yard run to the UST 17-yard-line.

Hartman finished 27-of-39 for 296 yards and no interceptions, hitting 10 different receivers. Archibald caught seven for 74 yards and Thompson caught two for 78. The Knights also rushed 40 times for 138 yards and finished with 434 yards of offense.

St. Norbert had eight sacks and had only one turnover -- a fumbled pitchout by Hartman in the third quarter. The Knights converted 11-of-18 3rd-down conversions and had the ball for 33:53.

Barkley had an 80-yard TD run in the second quarter and finished with 157 yards on 19 rushes. It was his 16th career 100-yard rushing game and gives him 3,292 career yards.

Tommie TE Jon Learn made an 80-yard reception and run to set up Justin Kostner's third-quarter TD run from five yards for the Tommies.

Tommie QB Nick Ambrasas completed 13-of-27 passes for 324 yards. Andrew Hilliard suprassed 100 career catches as he caught five for 133 yards, including a 42-yard TD for the game's first score. Hilliard now has 103 catches.
