Brandon Labath joined the St. Thomas football coaching staff in March 2023 as the tight ends coach. Labath previously served as the tight ends and fullbacks coach and co-special teams coordinator at Bemidji State over the past two seasons.
Labath helped Bemidji State to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including the first appearance in program history and wins during both first rounds, in addition to two conference championships. The Beavers went 10-3 in both 2021 and 2022 for the first 10-win seasons in program history while the fullbacks and tight ends contributed to the nation’s fifth-highest passing offense (335.3 ypg), fifth-best unit in sacks allowed (9), ninth-ranked total offense (466.7 ypg) and 11th-best tackles for loss allowed (44).
Labath served as an undergraduate assistant coach with Iowa from 2018-20 and a recruiting undergraduate assistant from 2016-17. As an offensive assistant, he focused on running backs under running backs coach Derrick Foster and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz. The Hawkeyes finished the 2019 season 10th in the Big Ten with 1,789 total rushing yards and 137.6 rushing yards per game. During Labath's first season as an undergraduate assistant coach, Iowa finished ninth in the Big Ten in total rushing yards and 10th in rushing yards per game.
Prior to promotion to running backs, Labath assisted the Iowa coaching staff with recruiting and team camp operations from 2016-17.
Labath graduated from Iowa in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in sport & recreation management after serving active duty in the United States Navy as an operations specialist from 2012-16. While serving in the Navy, he earned the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Navy Good Conduct Award.
Labath is from Bettendorf, Iowa and is a 2012 graduate of Bettendorf High School. He and his wife, Melissa, currently reside in Maplewood, Minn.
