Alex Boxwell will begin his first year coaching with Tommie Baseball in 2020.

A native of Coon Rapids, Minn., Boxwell was an all-conference football player and baseball player at Coon Rapids High School. In his senior season, he earned all-state honors in baseball and was nominated for Minnesota’s Mr. Baseball award. After high school Boxwell chose to attend the University of Minnesota. 

In 2015, Alex started in 19 games as a freshman for the Gophers and later that summer became a regular for the Waterloo Bucks in the Northwoods League. Boxwell had a breakout campaign for Minnesota in his sophomore season leading the Big Ten in hitting with a .392 average, helping the Gophers win a Big Ten championship. As a senior in 2018, Alex helped lead the Gophers to a second Big Ten crown in three seasons. In the Minneapolis Regional, Boxwell came through with an all-tournament team performance highlighted by a go-ahead home run against UCLA in the Regional championship clash. In four seasons, Boxwell only committed one error for the Maroon and Gold.

After graduation in 2018, Alex was picked up by the St Paul Saints of the American Association. He also played for the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Fargo-Morehead RedHawks during the 2019 season.
