Tommies drop final game against Hawkeyes
IOWA CITY, IOWA- The St. Thomas Tommies fell 14-4 to the Iowa Hawkeyes in their finale midweek game of the year. Freshman Terek Verhage led the offense with two hits. Joe Roder talllied two RBIs on the night.
Scoring Summary
The Tommies struck first, plating one in the top half of the first inning when Joe Roders RBI double brought in Tanner Recchio, who reached via a lead off walk. Iowa responded putting up eight in the home half to go up 8-1.
The Hawkeyes then plated one in the second, taking a 9-1 lead. St. Thomas responded in the fourth by plating three, making the score 9-3. Terek Verhage and Tanner Recchio picked up RBIs for the Purple.
Iowa responded in their half of the fourth inning, scoring one and taking a 10-3 lead. The Hawkeyes then plated two in the fifth to go up 12-3. They then plated another in the bottom of the sixth taking a 13-3 lead. St. Thomas didn't go away easy though as they plated a run of their own in the seventh to make it a 13-4 game. Joe Roder tallied his second RBI of the game, bringing in Zan Von Schlegell.
The Hawkeyes then walked the game off in the eighth to take the 14-4 victory.
