Tommies fall in battle with Jayhawks

Roder leads offense with three hits
KANSAS CITY, KANSAS- It was a back-and-forth battle Saturday afternoon between the Tommies and the Jayhawks. St. Thomas ultimately fell to Kansas 9-8. Joe Roder led the way for the Tommie offense, collecting three hits on the day.
Scoring Summary:
Kansas opened the scoring by plating two in the bottom of the second inning. The Tommies responded in the top half of the third by scoring a run of their own when Matthew Maulik's RBI double brought in Joe Roder.
St. Thomas then offense came alive in the fifth when they plated five runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. Lucas McNellis and Christopher Knowles picked up RBIs for the Purple.
Owen Bond then homered, scoring Recchio from second and giving the Tommies a 7-2 lead in the sixth. Kansas then responded by plating three in the bottom half of the sixth to cutting the Tommie lead to two.
The Jayhawks knotted the game at seven in the bottom of the eighth after two solo home runs.
The Tommies then took back the lead in the top of the ninth after Lucas McNellis's sac fly scored Joe Roder.
Kansas then hit a two-run home run to take the game 9-8 in the bottom of the ninth.

The Tommies will return to Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kansas for the final game of the series tomorrow, March 8th.
