Puder leads offense with three doubles
LAWRENCE, KANSAS- The Tommie offense came alive in Sunday's series finale against Kansas defeating the Jayhawks 13-2 in eight innings.
The St. Thomas pitching staff off Evan Esch, Jack Scanlon, and Sam Stockman was impressive, holding the Kansas offense to just one hit.
Eight Tommie batters had an RBI in today's contest, and all reached base safely at least once. Adam Puder led the way with three hits, all of which were doubles and driving in four runs.
Scoring Summary:
St.Thomas struck first in the second inning scoring two off RbIs from Easton Fritcher and Tanner Recchio.
The Tommies then pushed one across in both the fifth and the sixth to go up 4-0. Joe Roder picked up the RBI in the fifth when his sacrifice fly scored Easton Fritcher, who doubled earlier in the inning. Freshman Terek Verhage singled in the sixth to score Adam Puder, who also doubled earlier in the inning.
It took until the bottom of the sixth for the Jayhawks to get their first hit and run of the came cutting the Tommie lead to three.
St. Thomas responded in a big way by putting up six in the top of the seventh. Four Tommies drove in the run. Owen Bond, Christopher Knowles, and Zan Von Schegell tallied RBI singles. Adam Puder came up big for the Purple after clearing the bases with a double that scored three.
A Lucas McNellis homer, another RBI double from Puder, and Von Schlegell's RBI single brought in three more in the eighth.
Kansas scored their second run in the bottom of the eighth off a sacrifice fly.
Up Next
The Tommies will travel to Iowa City on March 10th to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in a midweek matchup.
