Tommie softball enters conference play with program-best 18-7 record

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas softball (18-7) will begin Summit League play this weekend against the Kansas City Roos (9-14) at Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City.  The Purple enter the weekend having not played a game since March 8. Their two scheduled nonconference doubleheaders against Drake and Iowa State were postponed due to the Midwest weather.

Last time out, the Tommies took four of five games at the Blue Collar Classic in Boise, Idaho with wins over Cal Baptist 11-3, Portland State 5-3 & 10-3, and Boise State 4-1. They dropped the final game of their weekend in extra innings against Weber State.

Kansas City (9-14) is much improved over last season having already doubled its 2025 win total. Most recently, the Roos run ruled Western Illinois at home, 8-0 in six innings. Des Moines Area CC transfer, Ella Husak, has been a difference maker on the offensive end with a team-leading .843 OPS, 23 hits, 25 total bases, and 16 walks. They also have a stud arm in the circle; Delilah Robles has gone 81 innings with a 2.42 ERA and 6 of their nine wins. Robles is at her third school in three seasons.

The Tommies have a top-of-the-Summit-League offense and pitching staff through 25 games this season. As a team they slash .308/.412/.581, second only to Omaha. The pitching staff has gone 156 innings with a 2.20 ERA, a whole 1.4 runs less than the next closest Summit staff (Omaha). Mya Tautges (1.65) and Ella Cook (1.69) are one-two at the top of the ERA leaderboard in the conference with Ava Kleinfeldt (2.74) right there in sixth.

On the offensive side, the Purple have three batters in the top seven of league OPS leaders. Avery Wukawitz (1.400 – 2nd), Abbi Stierlen (1.209 – 5th), and Laken Lienhard (1.134 – 7th). Ella Cook and Cassidy Carby each have OPS's over 1.000.

St. Thomas holds the all-time edge over Kansas City, 8-4. The Purple have won four in a row and seven of the last eight since 2023. The Tommies won all three games on their home turf last season in fewer than seven innings: 10-2 (5), 11-3 (5), and 8-0 (6).
