Tommies win OT thriller vs. Denver

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team officially earned its first win in Summit League play. The Tommies clinched their first conference win of the season in dramatic fashion, claiming a 74-65 overtime victory over Denver University Thursday evening. With the win, St. Thomas improves to 8-8 on the season and 1-1 in Summit League play.

- Jada Hood (St. Paul, Minn. / Roseville Area) tied her career-high with 22 points in the win on 8-15 shooting with five rebounds and five assists in 39 minutes of play.
- Laura Hauge (West St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran), Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) and Savannah McGowan (Plymouth, Minn. / Armstrong) all scored 10+ for the Tommies Thursday evening.
- St. Thomas has held opponents under 70 points in 15 consecutive games. The only team to score 70 or more against the Tommies this season is nationally ranked Iowa State.
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: St. Thomas set the tone early, opening the game with an 11-2 run over the opening five minutes. Hauge knocked down an early three and scored eight consecutive points for the Tommies, while McGowan and Feuerbach converted inside to build a double-digit lead. St. Thomas maintained control throughout the quarter and closed the quarter ahead 23-12.
Second Quarter: Denver responded with its strongest stretch of the game, using a 7-0 run midway through the second to erase the Tommie lead. St. Thomas continued to generate second-chance opportunities, but the Pioneers' efficiency trimmed the Tommies' lead to 34-33 at halftime.
Third Quarter: The teams traded momentum throughout a tightly contested third quarter that featured eight lead changes. Hood provided a late spark for the Purple, hitting a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to give St. Thomas a 53-50 edge heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: Defense took center stage in the fourth, with neither team finding an offensive rhythm. Both the Pioneers and Tommies had chances to take a lead in the closing seconds, but neither team was able to convert the game-winning basket, resulting in a 59-59 draw.
Overtime: St. Thomas took control in the extra period, opening overtime with a decisive 8-0 run. The Tommies limited Denver to just two field goals in overtime while capitalizing at the free-throw line to seal the 74-65 win.
