ST. PAUL MINN. - The St. Thomas Tommies (10-14-0, 5-13-0) looked to end the season series against No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers (21-1-2, 15-1-2) with a win at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. Sadly, that wasn't in the cards for St. Thomas, as the Tommies fell to the Badgers by a final score of 5-1. Rylee Bartz (Fargo, N.D. / Warroad) scored St. Thomas' lone goal in regulation, her 13th of the season.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: The first 10 minutes of the game were quiet until the Badgers struck in the 11th minute to make it 1-0. Wisconsin then scored twice more to take a 3-0 lead into the first break.
Second Period: Bartz put the Tommies on the board with her 13th of the season, the only goal scored in the second, cutting the Badger lead to 3-1. Ella Boerger (Anoka, Minn. / Anoka) and JuliAnna Gazdik (Somerset, Wis. / Gentry Academy) were credited with the assists. Bartz' goal was the lone goal scored in the second period.
Third Period: Wisconsin extended its lead to 4-1 early in the third period, but St. Thomas had a chance to cut into the lead late in the game. The Badgers were called for penalties at 6:49 and 16:12 in the third, giving the Tommies a skater advantage. Unfortunately, St. Thomas was unable to capitalize on those opportunities, and Wisconsin scored an empty net goal to cement the 5-1 victory.
