Men’s Golf opens fall season with Gopher Invitational

The Tommies placed 14th in a stacked Power 4 filled field
INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Tommie Men's Golf, led by junior Gavin Newkirk, placed 14th in a stacked Power 4 filled field at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Course on Sunday and Monday to begin the Fall 2025 season. Texas A&M came away with the victory, seven strokes clear of South Carolina, at even par. West Virginia, Louisville, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Rutgers were also in the field.
Scoring Summary
First Round
-Two Tommies got the competition out to a good start with rounds one stroke under par. Gavin Newkirk and Mason Roloff each shot 70s and both tallied four birdies.
-Owen Rexing finished at even par with a birdie on the final hole of the round.
-Tyler McNeive went three over with a 74 and Zach Rouleau finished out the Tommies' first round with an 81.
Second Round
-Sophomore, Tyler McNeive, led the way in the second half of day one with a 72, one stroke over par.
-Newkirk followed up his stellar first round with a 74, second best of the Tommies.
-Rexing shot a 76, Roloff a 77, and Rouleau an 82.
-The Tommies finished the first day in 13th place, 16 strokes over par as a team.
Third Round
-Owen Rexing and Mason Roloff tied with 73s to pace the Toms on the final day. Both seniors finished the competition tied for 38th place, seven strokes over par.
-Gavin Newkirk dropped eight spots on day two with a 75 down to 34th place at six over par.
-Tyler McNeive shot a 79 and finished in 59th place, Zach Rouleau shot an 80 for 81st place.
