Men’s Golf finishes strong for second place at Bluejay Invitational

The Tommies set a new 54-hole program team scoring record
OMAHA, Neb. – It was an all-around team effort by Tommie Men's Golf for second place at the Bluejay Invitational at Shadow Ridge on Sep. 15-16. The Tommies shot 11 strokes under par, six behind the champions North Dakota State Bison. Their team score (853) marked a new program record. Tyler McNeive (10th) and Gavin Newkirk (13th) each finished in the top 15.
Scoring Summary
First Round
-Gavin Newkirk finished day one out in front for the Tommies with a 68 (-4), the junior birdied five holes. The round tied his career-low that he set at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational last season.
-Tyler McNeive (69, -3) and Owen Rexing (70, -2) also went below par to kick off the event. McNeive matched his career-best that he set at the Summit League Championship last season.
-Jesse Hand shot a 74 (+2) in his first official collegiate action as the final scoring golfer for the Purple. Mason Roloff carded a 77 (+5).
Second Round
-Roloff bounced back on day two to lead the Tommies with a 72 (E).
-Newkirk, Rexing, and Hand each scored a 73 (+1) to land the Toms in second after two rounds.
-McNeive came in with a 76 (+4).
Third Round
-McNeive got back on track with a new career-low in the final round with a 68 (-4). His 213 (-3) for the tournament was a new career-best by five strokes and his 10th place finish was also a career-best.
-Mason Roloff and Jesse Hand both came in two strokes under par (70). A first for the freshman, Hand.
-Newkirk and Rexing both finished the competition with 73's (+1) on day three.
