Rexing takes 12th place at Git-R-Done Invitational

The Tommies took 7th place as a team in a field of 12
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Tommies returned to Nebraska for the second event in a row after a second-place finish at the Bluejay Invitational hosted by Creighton, they landed in seventh place at the Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn GC hosted by the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Purple finished ahead of Kansas City and Omaha, but two strokes behind South Dakota State. The hosting 'Huskers took the team title, 17 strokes ahead of Kansas State and the rest of the field.
Owen Rexing returned to Owen Rexing form for a 12th place finish to pace St. Thomas. Gavin Newkirk's first-round 68 was the best single round of the tournament by a Tommie.
Scoring Summary
First Round
-The Tommies finished the first round tied for fourth place right in the mix with Iowa State, Kansas State, and Wichita State. They carded a collective score five strokes below par.
-Gavin Newkirk matched his career-best from the opening round of the Bluejay Invitational with another 68 (-3). The junior carded five birdies, including three in a row on holes 15, 16, and 17.
-Owen Rexing and Tyler McNeive each added rounds at one stroke below par (70). McNeive out-birdied Rexing six to five but started in the hole after making a double bogey on hole four.
-Jesse Hand scored for the Purple with a round at even par, one stroke shy of his career best. Mason Roloff carded a 73 (+2).
Second Round
-Roloff bounced back to lead the Toms in the second round with a 69 (-2), the second lowest round of the competition for St. Thomas, and his lowest career score as a Tommie.
-Owen Rexing came in at even par with three birdies and three bogeys.
-Tyler McNeive scored a 74 (+3) with an eagle on his 11th hole. Gavin Newkirk and Jesse Hand each tied with 77's (+6) to finish off the scoring.
Third Round
-Owen Rexing steadied the ship with another round at par to spearhead the Toms on day two. He birdied the first hole, bogeyed the second and seventh, then birdied the eighth and played par golf from holes nine through 18.
-Tyler McNeive went one stroke over par for his final round and Newkirk tied with Hand once again with matching 73's (+2). Roloff came in with a 79 (+8).
