Men’s Golf comes away with team title at Shocker Invitational

Tyler McNeive led the way with three rounds under par.
NEWTON, Kan. – For the second time during the 2025 calendar year, the St. Thomas Men's Golf team outplayed their competition for a share of first place. Last time it was in an 18 team field in Washington, this time it was 17 teams at the Shocker Invitational hosted by Wichita State. The Tommies tied with fellow Summit League squad, Kansas City, and defeated Omaha, South Dakota State, and South Dakota in route to the team trophy in their final competition of the fall.
Tyler McNeive led the Purple the entire way across the three-day tournament with three consecutive rounds under par.
Scoring Summary
First Round
-McNeive began his tourney with a team-best 71 (-1) through the opening 18. He carded four birdies and three bogeys.
-Owen Rexing and Gavin Newkirk also finished the day with a competitive score, both went even par (72). Rexing did so with two birdies and bogeys while Newkirk did so with three of each.
-Jess Hand finished the round as the final scoring golfer for St. Thomas with a 74 (+2).
-Mason Roloff and Zach Rouleau (as an independent) tied with first-round 77's while independent, Max Brud carded an 83 (+11).
Second Round
-The second round was a team masterpiece by the Tommies and was what propelled the Purple to their first victory of the 2025-26 season. All four scoring golfers (and even one independent) scored below par.
-McNeive had a remarkable round with a team-low 69 (-3). The sophomore made par on eight holes on the front nine (one bogey) and birdied four of his final nine (including 15, 17, and 18).
-Jesse Hand, Owen Rexing, Mason Roloff, and Zach Rouleau (Ind.) all scored 71's (-1).
-Max Brud went three strokes over par and Gavin Newkirk carded a 76 (+4).
Third Round
-Tyler McNeive was the only scoring Tommie to return with a round under par, his third in a row. His 71 (-1) matched his first-round score and led the Toms.
-Jesse Hand and Mason Roloff tied in the final round with 73's (+1).
-Gavin Newkirk made a 74 and Rexing a 75.
-The independents showed up on the final day as well. Rouleau finished with a round at even par and Max Brud set a new personal record as a Tommie with a final day 69 (-3).
