VanArragon punches into top five on final day

The junior went one stroke under par to move up five spots during last round
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Tommie Women's Golf put its best round together on the final day for the second consecutive tournament. This time, the Tommies jumped up one spot to finish tied for 10th at the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine GCS hosted by the University of Iowa. The Toms shot 305 on the final day and 930 across three rounds. Kathryn VanArragon led St. Thomas once again with a fifth-place finish. She finished four strokes over par, three behind second.
The hosting Hawkeyes won the team title by five strokes over Montana State. The Tommies finished fourth of the four Summit League teams in the field.
Scoring Summary
First Round
-VanArragon carded a 75 (+3) to lead St. Thomas during the first round of play. She bounced back after a rough start (+5 through six holes) to go two under through the remaining 12.
-Amelia Morton went next lowest with a 77 (+5), Emma Davies followed with an 81 (+9).
-Freshman, Genevieve Birkeland was the final scoring Tommie, but tied with fellow freshman, Karen Lind Stefansdottir, with an 83 (+11).
-Claire Schweim carded a 79 (+7) as an individual, the third best score of the round by a Tommie.
Second Round
-Kathryn dropped one stroke off her first-round score with a team-leading 74 (+2) in the second. She tallied one birdie and just three bogeys dotted around a very consistent round.
-Amelia Morton scored the same as she did during her first go around, 77 (+5).
-Davies and Birkeland tied, each with 79's (+7) to finish off the scoring.
-Stefansdottir made an 84 (+12) and the individual, Schweim went a bit lower with an 81 (+9).
Third Round
-VanArragon shined on the final day with a remarkable 71 (-1). She bogeyed her first hole, and played fabulous golf for the remainder of the day.
-Morton, Davies, Birkeland, (and Schweim) each finished the day with 78's (+6) to help the Toms along to their best team round of the tournament.
-Stefansdottir came in with an 89 (+17).
