Tommies open the 2025 season with a 5-0 victory over Viterbo

LA CROSSE, WIS. – The St. Thomas women's soccer team picked up a convincing 5-0 victory on the road at Viterbo. The offense was evenly spread as four different Tommies scored. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Olivia Rowe picked up five saves in the shutout.
QUICK HITS: Graduate transfer Mackenzie Jacobson made the most of her Purple debut, leading the Tommie offense with two goals, earning a brace. This is the seventh time in the Division 1 era that the Tommies have scored three or more goals in a match.
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Half: Mackenzie Jacobson opened the scoring early putting the Tommies on board in the sixth minute.
Second Half: Molly Knoblauch found the back of the net in the 60th minute off of a free kick just outside of the box. Two minutes later Melina Knowles scored off a pass from Izzy McEwan. Kenzie Jacobson added to the Tommies lead in the 72nd minute, scoring her second goal of the night off the assist of Melina Knowles. The Tommies then added to lead again when freshman Georgie McNeil scored the first goal of her Tommie career during the 82nd minute, making the score 5-0.
TOP TOMMIES
- Mackenzie Jacobson (Rosemount, Minn/ Rosemount) led the Tommie offense with two goals. Scoring the first of her Tommie career as well as the season. This marks her first brace of the season.
- Olivia Rowe (Ramsey, Minn / Anoka) recorded her first shutout of the season while recording five saves.
- Melina Knowles (Plymouth, Wis. / Plymouth) picked up both a goal and an assist to start the 2025 season.
- Georgie McNeil (Winter Garden, FL / West Orange High School) scored her first career goal.
- Molly Knoblauch (Coon Rapids, Min. / Coon Rapids) opened up the second half scoring by finding the back of the net off a free kick.
- Izzy McEwan ( Minneapolis, Minn. / Wasburn) earned her first career assist.
QUOTEABLES
Head coach Sheila McGils thoughts on Thursday's non confernence win over Viterbo.
"We began the game a little slow, but found our rhythm in the second have and started to move the ball well. We had lots of chances and ended up finishing well in front of the goal. Now we build on this momentum into the season."
UP NEXT
The Tommies will travel just down the road to the University of Minnesota to take on the Gophers on Sunday Aug. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul.
