Baseball secures 5-4 victory over North Dakota State in series opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas baseball welcome the North Dakota State Bison for game one of a Summit League series. Gaining the lead early in the series opener, North Dakota State (16-29 overall, 12-13 Summit) held the advantage until the seventh inning. Scoring four runs in the seventh frame, St. Thomas (25-20 overall, 17-8 Summit) earned a comeback victory to defeat the Bison 5-4 on Friday afternoon.

North Dakota State gained the early lead in the series opener, tallying a pair of runs in the first inning. The Bison recorded three runs before the Tommies scored their first of the game in the bottom of the fifth.

A four-run seventh inning then gave St. Thomas its first lead of the contest. Holding the 5-4 lead, the Tommies earned the comeback victory over the Bison.

Marcus Kruzan (8-1) totaled eight strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work on Friday. Zak Endres allowed one hit, shutting down the North Dakota State offense over the final two frames.
