Early scoring lifts the Tommies over North Dakota State, 3-1

Baseball secures series victory, earns 3-1 win over the Bison
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas baseball hosted the North Dakota State Bison in game two of a Summit League series. St. Thomas (26-20 overall, 18-8 Summit) gained an early lead over the Bison on Saturday. Holding the lead, the Tommies defeated North Dakota State (16-30 overall, 12-14 Summit) at Koch Diamond, 3-1.
After a scoreless first frame, St. Thomas tallied a pair of runs in the second inning to gain the lead early on Saturday afternoon. The Tommies then added one run in the third inning, holding the 3-0 lead until the top of eighth.
North Dakota State scored its lone run of the contest in the eighth inning. Keeping the Bison off the board in the ninth, the Tommies defeated North Dakota State by a score of 3-1 on Saturday.
Saturday's win marks the first time the Tommies have earned a series victory over North Dakota State.
Riane Ritter (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) (5-1) shutout the Bison, allowing one hit and totaling five strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work. Max Skilbeck (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) posted his sixth save of the season, totaling three strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
