Omaha defeats Baseball in Sunday’s series finale

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas baseball hosted the Omaha Mavericks in the final game of a Summit League series on Sunday. In the competitive conference matchup, Omaha (18-24 overall, 11-13 Summit) gained the lead late in the game. Until to complete the comeback, St. Thomas (22-20 overall, 16-8 Summit) fell to the Mavericks at Koch Diamond.

St. Thomas opened scoring in the bottom of the first frame on Sunday. A four-run second inning then extended the Tommies' lead to 5-0.

Omaha responded with a four-run top of the third, adding a run in the top of the fifth to tie the contest at 5-5.

After Brigs Richartz posted his third home run of the season, Omaha responded with a three-run home run to gain the 8-6 lead in the top of the eighth.

Alex Hendrickson posted his first collegiate hit and RBI in the eighth frame, bringing St. Thomas within one run with one inning to play.

However, the Mavericks recorded a three-run ninth to extend their lead once again. Unable to complete the comeback, the Tommies fell to Omaha in the series finale, 11-7.

Brigs Richartz recorded three hits and four RBI against the Mavericks.

Walker Retz, Bryce Leedle and Kody Dalen combined for 12 strikeouts on Sunday.
