Softball wins 11th in a row; sweeps Kansas City

A third consecutive eight run victory for the Tommies over the Roos
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Another day, another dominant performance for the St. Thomas Softball team (31-16 overall, 12-3 Summit League). The Tommies took down the Kansas City Roos (5-37, 1-14) to complete the conference series sweep in six innings, 8-0. Ella Cook pitched a complete game shutout and Ruby Moore tripled home two runs to walk it off in the bottom of the sixth. Laken Lienhard reached base safely four times.

Cook worked a scoreless first inning to open the door for a three-run outburst by the Tommie offense. Laken Lienhard led off the bottom half with a four pitch walk and then advanced to second on a groundout. Cassidy Carby tripled her home and then scored on an Ella Cook single to left field. Kaitlyn Raymond singled and then Abbi Stierlen followed suit with an RBI base hit up the middle.
The Toms worked out of the second with an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play after Cook walked the leadoff hitter and struck out the next Roo hitter.
Lienhard led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run, her seventh of the season. Wukawitz singled and then scored on a Raymond double to right center field. The Toms led 5-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning.
St. Thomas' defense worked another 6-4-3 double play in the top of the fifth. Cook held the Roos off second base until the top of the sixth inning. She went six without allowing a run on three hits, four walks, and one strikeout. Her defense worked without a single error.
A pair of triples led the charge for the Purple in the final frame. Abbi Stierlen tripled to the right field corner with one out and then scored on a Kameron Monson infield single. After Adrianna Young walked to reach base as the winning run, Ruby Moore tripled to right field to score two and slam the door closed on Kansas City.
The Toms belted five extra-base hits from five different hitters. Kaitlyn Raymond doubled, Carby, Stierlen, and Moore tripled, and Lienhard launched a solo home run. Avery Wukawitz singled three times and scored once. Lienhard reached four times with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a big fly.
