Malmquist is the first Tommie of the DI era to play in the American Hockey League

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas Hockey senior forward Liam Malmquist has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL), announced Tuesday, March 25 by the team's front office. The Moose are the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets. Malmquist played in 74 games for the Tommies with 30 goals, 42 assists, and 72 points over the last two seasons.

The Edina, Minn. native was named to the All-CCHA First Team this past season along with being named one of the three finalists for CCHA Forward of the Year. This season, he led the conference in goals scored (20) and points (45) and set single season program records in both. His 25 assists and +18 rating led the way for the Tommies in their program-best 19-win season.

Malmquist transferred to St. Thomas his junior season and immediately had a career year with 10 goals and 17 assists. He broke out even more offensively this season. He was the quickest Tommie to 50 points in purple, it took him just 56 games. He was also the Tommies' first 40-point scorer in program history.

Liam is the first Tommie in the DI era to play in the AHL. His new team, the Manitoba Moose, are the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets and are currently 22-34-2 competing in the Central Division. They have 11 games left to play this season.
