Sibell earned his third GOTW this season and Laylin earned his first ROTW honor
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association released its final weekly honors of the 2024-25 season and the St. Thomas Tommies earned two of the final bunch. Jake Sibell was named Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season and fifth time in his career while Casy Laylin earned his first weekly honor and was the first Tommie Rookie of the Week since Aaron Trotter in January of 2023.
Jake Sibell won his 12th game in a row in the Tommies' 3-1 defeat of Bowling Green in the Mason Cup Semifinal last Saturday. The senior netminder stopped 32 of the 33 pucks he faced in what was essentially a one-goal game the entire night. Sibell and the defense killed all three of the power plays they faced, and he made five saves, including three while facing off against a 6-on-4 with under two minutes left in regulation.
Casy Laylin scored the opening goal of the Semifinal against the Falcons at 5:40 in the second period. The freshman's fourth goal of the season was most certainly the most important. He picked the top corner and bested one of the hottest goaltenders in the country to put the Tommies out in front. He finished the game as a +1 with two total shots on goal. His 11 points this season are the most by a Tommie freshman since his brother Luc, Lucas Wahlin, and Josh Eernisse each tallied 21 in 2022-23.
