Alex Gaffney inks deal with Hershey Bears

The Bears are the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas men's hockey forward, Alex Gaffney, has signed an American Hockey League (AHL) contract for the 2026-27 season in addition to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign with the Hershey Bears, announced Tuesday, March 24 by the team's front office.
Gaffney played in 38 games across one season for the Tommies, he scored 18 goals and became the third player in DI program history to tally a 40-point season.
The West Orange, N.J. native finished third in the CCHA with 18 goals, T-6th with 22 assists, and 2nd with 40 points. He also finished T-2nd in the NCAA with three shorthanded goals. Gaffney tallied 41 points in 100 games across 3+ seasons with the Harvard Crimson.
He helped the Tommies return to their second Mason Cup Final game in the program's first 20-win campaign.
