David Rozsíval and Quinn Rudrud scored first goals as Tommies

ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Thomas men's hockey (1-1-0) got goals from four different skaters en route to its first win of the NCHC era, a 4-2 victory over the Air Force Falcons (1-1-0) on Saturday night at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. David Rozsíval and Quinn Rudrud each scored their first Tommie goals, while Chase Cheslock and Lucas Van Vliet added to their career totals.

An Air Force too-many-men penalty gave the Tommies an early power play, and Van Vliet hit the pipe at 18:57 before the chance ended without a goal. Air Force generated pressure after that stretch, but Ajay White turned aside several Falcon chances in the first period of his collegiate debut. White finished the night with 24 saves on 26 shots for his first career win.

Rozsíval put the Tommies ahead at 19:14 of the second period, with assists from Mason Poolman and Jakub Altrichter. It was the first collegiate goal for the New Jersey Devils draft pick. Air Force tied it at 12:23 on a goal by Oliver Genest, and the teams traded pressure through the middle of the frame. The Tommies then had to navigate a pivotal five-minute Air Force power play after an Altrichter cross-checking penalty at 7:57, before generating chances of their own when a Christian Kim slashing penalty gave St. Thomas a power play. Cheslock, another New Jersey draft pick, broke the tie at :22 on assists from Kevin Anderson and Rozsíval, sending the Tommies into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Air Force tied the game at 17:13 of the third period when Cole Christian scored on the power play. The Tommies kept up the pressure through the middle of the period, including a Rudrud shot off the pipe and four shots during a late power play, before Rudrud scored at even strength at 5:47 on assists from Nathan Pilling and Cheslock to make it 3-2. After Air Force pulled its goalie, Van Vliet scored into the empty net at 1:45, with Justin Kipkie and Hawke Huff assisting, to seal the 4-2 win.
