Baseball completes sweep of Omaha, defeats the Mavericks 13-7

The Tommies start conference play 3-0

OMAHA, Neb. –   St. Thomas baseball wrapped up its series at Omaha with a Sunday afternoon contest. Completing the weekend sweep, the Tommies (9-6 overall, 3-0 Summit) defeated Omaha (5-13 overall, 0-3 Summit) by a score of 13-7 at Tal Anderson Field.
 
St. Thomas opened the game scoring three runs in the first inning. Adding one run before Omaha tallied two, the Tommies held the 4-2 advantage through two frames.
 
After three scoreless innings, Matthew Maulik opened the sixth with a lead off solo home run to extend the Purple's lead. The following frame, Maulik posted a two-run homer, recording home runs in back-to-back at bats.  
 
Adding five runs in the seventh, the Tommies took the 11-5 lead late in the game.
 
St. Thomas tallied two runs across the final two frames, defeating the Mavericks 13-7.
 
Four Tommies recorded a multi-hit game, led by Brigs Richartz and Ben Vujovich who each totaled three hits. Joe Roder and Maulik posted three RBI against the Mavericks.
 
Riane Ritter posted four shutout innings and nine strikeouts through 5.0 innings on Sunday.
