Boreen scores twice in win over Bemidji State
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team hosted Bemidji State in the series finale between the two squads. After Bemidji State (6-26-1, 4-22-0 WCHA) took a 2-0 lead, St. Thomas (9-21-2, 6-19-1 WCHA) responded with four goals of its own, earning the 4-3 win on Saturday.
RECAP
It was a scoreless first period at Saint Thomas Ice Arena until Bemidji State tallied the game's first goal with just over two minutes to play in the opening frame.
The Beavers doubled their lead early in the second, however St. Thomas responded with a goal from senior defender, Nicole Vallario just three minutes later. Late in the second frame, St. Thomas went on the power play. Capitalizing on the player advantage, Chloe Boreen evened the score with her seventh goal of the season.
The game went into the final period of the weekend even at 2-2.
Midway through the third period, the Tommies tallied back-to-back goal to take the 4-2 lead. Boreen tallied her second of the afternoon before Lauren Stenslie scored her third goal and fourth point in the last five games played.
Bemidji State added its third of the game with just under five minutes to go in regulation. Holding the lead, the Tommies earned the 4-3 win in the series finale.
