Women’s Hockey set for final weekend of the regular season

The Tommies face Minnesota State in a home-and-home series from Feb. 21-22
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team is set for the final weekend of the regular season, facing Minnesota State in a home-and-home series. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Mayo Clinic HSEC and 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
Saturday, Feb. 15 is Senior Day for Tommie Hockey. Be sure to arrive to the arena early for a pre-game celebration.

Tommie Seniors
Tommie Hockey will graduate seven seniors in 2025:
- Two-year captain Maddy Clough has played 136 games for St. Thomas and has scored 15 goals while tallying 29 assists. The senior defender is a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, three-time WCHA All-Academic team recipient and has earned the Krampade/ACHA All-American Scholar honor award.
- Senior forward Lauren Stenslie has played 127 games for the Tommies. Setting the DI program record, Lauren has totaled 26 goals and 45 points in her four-year career in Purple. She is a WCHA All-Scholar Athlete and WCHA All-Academic team honoree.
- Senior defender Rachel Golnitz has skated in 124 games, recording 10 assists and 59 blocked shots. With St. Thomas, Golnitz is a two-time WCHA Scholar Athlete recipient and WCHA All-Academic team honoree.
- Senior defender Alli Pahl has played 131 games in Purple, recording 108 blocked shots. Alli is a two-time WCHA Scholar Athlete recipient and WCHA All-Academic team honoree.
- Maddie Jurgensen has totaled 135 games played and 14 points in her career with St. Thomas. Maddie ranks third in program history in games played in Purple. The senior forward is a two-time WCHA All-Academic team honoree and WCHA Scholar Athlete recipient.
- Nicole Vallario has totaled 119 games played, 14 goals, and 22 assists in Purple. The 2022 Olympian competes for team Switzerland, playing in three world tournaments and the Olympic games in Beijing during her time at St. Thomas. Nicole is a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, three-time WCHA All-Academic team recipient.
- Graduate student Calla Frank has competed in 83 games, totaling 2218 saves, a .901 SV% and 30 wins in her collegiate career. Along with being named to the WCHA All-Rookie team her freshman season, Calla is a four-time WCHA Scholar Athlete and WCHA All-Academic team recipient.
Last Weekend Recap
St. Thomas women's hockey hosted Bemidji State in a weekend series. After falling 5-0 in game one, the Tommies responded with a 4-3 win over the Beavers in game two.
Head Coach Bethany Brausen
The University of St. Thomas Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Phil Esten announced Bethany Brausen as the next head coach of the Tommie women's hockey program.
Brausen brings a wealth of experience to the head coaching roll, serving as St. Thomas top assistant, active head coach and interim head coach since joining the program in 2021.
As the interim head coach in 2024-25, Brausen led the Tommies to their first sweep of a top-5 opponent, upending the #4 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
Scouting the Mavericks
The Minnesota State Mavericks (11-19-2, 5-19-2 WCHA) are coming off two losses against #6 UMD. Minnesota State fell 8-2 in game one, followed by a 4-1 defeat in game two at AMSOIL Arena.
Graduate Student, Jamie Nelson leads the Maverick offense with 25 points (6G, 19A) in 32 games played this season. Junior, Whitney Tuttle has posted 13 goals for Minnesota State through 30 games.
History Against Minnesota State
- The Tommies hold a 5-10 record against Minnesota State, including a 2-5 record both at home and on the road.
- In the Tommies first WCHA series of the season, St. Thomas swept Minnesota State by scores of 4-3, and 3-2.

WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.
Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.
