Women’s Hockey falls to Minnesota State on the road

Boerger scores twice in 8-3 defeat

MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team traveled to Mankato for game one of a series against Minnesota State. Taking the lead early in the game, Minnesota State (12-19-2, 6-19-2 WCHA) held the advantage the entirety of the game, defeating St.  Thomas (9-22-2, 6-20-1 WCHA) on Friday night.
 
RECAP
Minnesota State scored back-to-back goals to open the game at Mayo Clinic HSEC. St. Thomas responded with a goal of its own from Rylee Bartz, cutting the Mavericks lead to one. However, Minnesota State added its third of the game late in the period to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
 
The Mavericks never trailed during the 60 minutes of play, adding two second period goals and three goals in the third frame. Ella Boerger recorded a power play goal for the Tommies in both the second and third period in the series opener.

The Tommies will play in their final game of the regular season tomorrow, Feb. 22. Puck drop is set for 4:00 p.m. at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
