Volleyball closes road schedule with 3-1 win at North Dakota

Three Tommies record double-digit kills, Kealy and Gustafson each tally double-doubles
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – St. Thomas closed its road season Saturday with a 3-1 win at North Dakota (25-12, 29-31, 25-18, 25-15) behind double-digit kills from three Tommies and double-double performances by juniors Ellie Gustafson and Morgan Kealy. The Tommies improve to 17-9 overall and 10-5 in the Summit League, including an 8-4 record on the road, as senior Tezra Rudzitis led the team with 16 kills and Kealy and senior Ella Voegele led with 15 digs each.
SCORING SUMMARY
Set One: St. Thomas wasted no time taking control, using three early service aces to build a 6-3 lead, including one from Ella Voegele and back-to-back aces by Allie Kopp. After UND trimmed the margin to one, a block assist from Megan Wetter and Morgan Kealy ignited a decisive 12-2 run that stretched the advantage to 18-7. The Tommies racked up six kills during the surge and closed the frame by scoring seven of the final 10 points for a dominant 25-12 win. St. Thomas hit .400 with just two attack errors while holding North Dakota to seven kills and seven errors. Tezra Rudzitis posted five kills in the opener.
Set Two: The Tommies again opened fast with a 4-0 lead behind kills from Wetter and Rudzitis paired with two UND errors. North Dakota responded with 3-0 and 4-0 bursts and seized its first lead of the night, sparking five lead changes down the stretch. After trailing 10-9, St. Thomas reclaimed control with a 6-2 run to lead 15-12, but UND countered with a 10-3 stretch to go up 22-18. The Tommies answered with a 5-0 push, featuring consecutive kills by Rudzitis to hit double digits. Both teams traded set points until UND finally converted its third opportunity to take a marathon frame, 31-29.

Her kill and first ace of the match kicked off a 9-2 Tommie run to go up 16-12. UND pulled within two before Gustafson delivered three more kills to fuel another surge, helping the Tommies take nine of the final 13 points to claim the set, 25-18. St. Thomas hit .282 with 15 kills while holding UND to .073 hitting.

The Tommies kept the pressure on with runs of 3-0 and 4-0 to push the lead to 13-5. An ace from Anya Schmidt and another kill from Wetter extended the margin to 20-11 before the Purple closed out the match with four straight points, securing the 25-15 win.

- All three of the Tommies to record double-digit kills hit above .350, including Tezra Rudzitis with a team-high 16 kills on .353 hitting, Ellie Gustafson with 13 kills on .400 hitting, and Megan Wetter with 11 kills on .455 hitting. Anya Schmidt followed with nine kills and 11 digs.
- Morgan Kealy tallied her 17th double-double of the season and 44th of her career with 42 assists and 15 digs, tying for the team high with Ella Voegele.
- Allie Kopp finished with three service aces and eight digs.

St. Thomas closes out the regular season with senior night Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. against Oral Roberts. The Tommies' nine seniors, including Maria Chapman, Emma Goerger, Keya Luta Win Hunt, Allie Kopp, Kaitlynn Peterson, Tezra Rudzitis, Ella Voegele, Megan Wetter and Ava Wild, will be recognized following the conclusion of the match.
