Seniors show out as Tommie close regular season with sweep over Oral Roberts

Rudzitis, Wetter and Goerger combined for 29 kills as St. Thomas moves to 18-9 overall
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The seniors of St. Thomas guided St. Thomas volleyball to a sweep over Oral Roberts (25-17, 25-18, 25-12) to close the home schedule and regular season at Schoenecker Arena. The Tommies finish the regular season 18-9 overall and 11-5 in the Summit League, earning the No. 3 seed in the Summit League Tournament beginning Nov. 23.
SCORING SUMMARY
Set One: St. Thomas established early control as a block assist from Tezra Rudzitis and Addie Schmotzer kick-started a 4-0 run for a 4-1 advantage. Oral Roberts briefly pulled even, but the Tommies countered with a 6-2 stretch featuring kills from four different attackers to build a 16-11 lead. The margin grew to six at 19-13 before St. Thomas closed the frame on a 5-1 push, fueled by two late kills from Rudzitis, to take the set 25-17. The Tommie defense set the tone by holding ORU to -.023 hitting with eight attack errors, while Megan Wetter paced the offense with five kills and Rudzitis followed with four.
Set Two: The Tommies again jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind an Ella Voegele ace and early kills from Wetter and Ellie Gustafson. Consecutive kills by Anya Schmidt and another swing from Gustafson extended the advantage to 7-3, and an Emma Goerger finish stretched the lead to 13-7. Gustafson's third kill of the frame pushed the margin to a set-high eight at 20-12. ORU chipped the deficit to four, but Goerger's late kill and a Gustafson ace set the table for a closing 4-1 run capped by a Kaitlynn Peterson kill to secure the 25-18 win. St. Thomas hit .370 in the set while limiting the Golden Eagles to .280.
Set Three: Gustafson opened the final set with her second ace of the night, sparking a 4-0 run highlighted by back-to-back Goerger kills and another from Schmidt. The Tommies quickly widened the gap to 11-2 with an ace from Allie Kopp. ORU momentarily steadied, but Goerger ignited a dominant 7-0 surge that stretched the lead to 20-6. St. Thomas maintained full control the rest of the way, finishing on a 5-2 burst to close out a 25-12 victory. The Tommies held the Golden Eagles to another negative hitting set at -.073 while producing 15 kills to ORU's five, hitting .306 in the frame.
TOMMIE TIDBITS
St. Thomas matched its Division I era single-season record with 18 wins, equaling last year's total, and heads to the Summit League Tournament in its first year of eligibility as the No. 3 seed.
The Tommies wrapped up their home schedule 6-2 and have gone 14-5 at Schoenecker Arena since the start of the 2024 season.
St. Thomas hit .279 for the match while holding Oral Roberts to .027, buoyed by five service aces and four total blocks.
Tezra Rudzitis led with 11 kills on .400 hitting and added two blocks. With her performance, she set the program's Division I single-season kill record (338) and claimed sole possession of the DI career kills record (1,034).
Megan Wetter closed her home career with 10 kills on .450 hitting, while fellow senior Emma Goerger delivered eight kills on .571 with no errors.
Morgan Kealy guided the offense with 38 assists and added nine digs. Ella Voegele anchored the back row with a match-high 17 digs.

The Tommies will face the No. 6 seed Omaha Mavericks on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. in Brookings, S.D. The winner will advance to play No. 2 seed South Dakota on Monday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m.
