Men’s Hockey looks to complete its first season series sweep over St. Cloud State
ST. The Purple held onto a slight one goal lead through the first two periods of their 3-1 loss on Friday at home. The Mavericks got two past freshman goaltender, Will Ingemann, before sending home an empty netter. Luc Laylin scored his third of the season on a redirect of a Hayes Hundley point shot. Bauer Berry earned the secondary assist. Ingemann got revenge with some run support in Mankato on Saturday. He made 27 saves in his first career victory. Dylan Godbout, Ryan O'Neill, and Alex Gaffney scored in regulation before Nathan Pilling notched his second game-winning goal of the season, two minutes into overtime. All four players on the ice for the OT winner were freshman (Pilling, Van Vliet, Hundley, and Ingemann).
St. Cloud State is 6-4 since dropping its opener to the Tommies with wins over Bemidji State, Vermont, Alaska Anchorage, and Western Michigan. Most recently, the Huskies were swept by #7 Minnesota Duluth on the road, 4-0 and 3-2 (OT) last weekend.
