The Tommies defeat UMD in OT, 4-3

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team hosted the No. 4-ranked UMD Bulldogs in game two of a WCHA match up.  The Tommies defeated Duluth in overtime, completing the weekend sweep.

The 4-3 victory marks the first sweep of a nationally-ranked opponent for St. Thomas.

RECAP
Once again, Rylee Bartz opened scoring for the Tommies on Friday afternoon at Saint Thomas Ice Arena. Off a pass from linemate Lauren Stenslie, Bartz tallied her seventh of the season with 15:29 remaining in the opening frame.

Holding the 1-0 lead, the Tommies took the one goal advantage into the first intermission.

Midway through the second frame St. Thomas went on power play, as Kamdyn Davis of UMD was called for boarding. Capitalizing on the player advantage, Chloe Boreen doubled the Tommies' lead. However, UMD flipped the script, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead into the final 20 minutes of the weekend.

After a scoreless 10 minutes in the final frame, Lauren Stenslie found the back of the net, scoring the equalizer for St. Thomas. With neither side able to find the go-ahead goal, the WCHA matchup went into overtime.

In the Tommies fifth overtime against a nationally ranked opponent this season, Ella Boerger recorded the game-winning goal, lifting the Tommies to a series sweep against the #4 UMD Bulldogs.
