Three Tommies record multi-hit games in 6-5 loss to Mavericks
ST. PAUL, Minn. - In a back-and-forth game, St. Thomas found itself on the losing end of a one-run game against Omaha in the Tommies' home opener. After a quick 4-0 start for the Mavericks, the Tommies would score five unanswered runs and carry their lead into the seventh inning. However, a pair of late Omaha runs lifted the Mavericks to a 6-5 Summit League victory.
Junior, Ben Vujovich and senior, Max Moris each reached base four times and were two of three Tommies to record multi-hit games, but St. Thomas left 11 runners on base which would ultimately be the difference.
Starter, Jacob Mrosko was able to shake off four early runs as he threw 5.0 innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five.
With an RBI single from Matthew Maulik, St. Thomas was on the board in the third inning. That same inning, Joe Roder would drive in two Tommies, recording an RBI single and cutting the deficit to one at the end of the third.
After Moris picked off a runner to end the top of the fourth, Joe Vos started the bottom half with a lead off single. Maulik and Roder once again recorded RBIs in the same inning, lifting the Tommies to take the 5-4 lead.
Mrosko ended his day on a positive, stranding a pair of runners in the fifth inning to preserve the lead.
Omaha would capitalize on a pair of two out walks in the seventh, followed by a base hit that equalized the game at five runs apiece. A pair of two out hits in the eighth then gave the Mavericks the leads once again.
St. Thomas will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 6th for a double header with Omaha. Game one is set for a noon first pitch.
