Softball heads into conference play with a setback

The Tommies fell in six innings to the Santa Clara Broncos, 10-2.
BOISE, Ida. – The University of St. Thomas Softball team (4-24) fell in the final game of the City of Trees Classic 10-2 in six innings to the Santa Clara University Broncos (16-10) on Sunday afternoon.
GAME RECAP
The Tommies tallied seven hits and drew two walks enroute to their game-five defeat against the Broncos. Kaitlyn Raymond continued her impressive start to the season with two hits and a run scored. The junior now leads the team with 23 hits in 27 games and has gotten on base nearly 38% of her plate appearances.
Both Laken Lienhard and Ella Cook hit safely once, reached on a walk once, and brought home a run batted in once. Cook's double was the only extra-base hit of the game for the Purple. Cassidy Carby, Morgan Klein, and Maddie Grad each singled.
The Broncos scored three runs in the bottom second inning before Lake Lienhard got a run back, scoring Morgan Klein on a bases-loaded walk. Santa Clara answered in the bottom of the third with five runs.
St. Thomas again clawed a run back on Ella Cook's RBI double in the top of the fifth to score Raymond. The Broncos scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the eight-run rule victory.
UP NEXT
The Tommies open their Summit League schedule with three games on the road against the Kansas City Roos. The Roos are currently 9-18 and will host the Tommies twice on Saturday March 23rd and once on Sunday, March 24th.
