Baseball completes sweep of Northern Colorado, defeats Bears 7-2 on Sunday afternoon

The Tommies top Northern Colorado and open conference play undefeated
GREELEY, Colo. -- St. Thomas baseball opened Summit League play at Northern Colorado this weekend, competing in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Tommies completed the weekend sweep of the Bears, defeating Northern Colorado 7-2.
The Tommies scored multiple runs over two innings of today's game, totaling 11 hits and seven runs. St. Thomas finished the weekend tallying 10-plus hits in all three contests of the weekend.
RECAP
St. Thomas started the game with five-straight base hits, including RBI-singles from Ben Vujovich and Joe Roder to put the Tommies on the board first in the series finale. Totaling six hits in the first inning, the Tommies scored four runs to take an early lead.
Northern Colorado cut the Purple's lead in half, scoring two runs in the fifth inning.
After the burst of runs in the opening frame, St. Thomas was kept off the scoreboard for four innings. Bases loaded from three-straight walks to start the sixth inning, back-to-back Tommies were then hit by a pitch, advancing two runs home. Brigs Richartz scored his second run of the day on a sacrifice fly, extending the Tommies' lead to 7-2.
Richartz and Roder recorded multi-hit games, as Richartz also recorded two runs on the day.
Devon Schewe, Kolby Gartner (2-1), and Bryce Leedle combined for seven strikeouts, walking four batters and allowing just three hits.
This weekend marks the first sweep this season and second sweep of a conference opponent for St. Thomas in the DI-era.
