Women’s Hockey travels north for series against the Beavers

The Tommies return to WCHA play, travel to Bemidji

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team travels north to Bemidji, set for a WCHA series against the Beavers.  Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Sanford Center.

Last Weekend Recap
The Tommies hosted Lindenwood for a non-conference series.
 
On Friday, St. Thomas earned a 7-2 win over the Lions. Seven different Tommies scored as four Tommies recorded multi-point games against the Lions, led by Ella Boerger who tallied three assists

In game two, Sajevic scored the Tommies' lone goal in a loss to Lindenwood.

Cara Sajevic and Nicole Vallario earned WCHA Weekly honors after strong performances against Lindenwood, as announced by the league's office on Monday.  Sajevic earned WCHA Forward of the Week, while Vallario picked up Defender of the Week; both earning their first WCHA honor of the season.

A Shoreview, Minn. native, Sajevic scored two goals and recorded an assist in two games played against the Lions. On Thursday, Sajevic recorded her second multi-point game of the season, posting a goal and an assist in the series opener.
 
Vallario, the senior defender also posted a two-point game on Thursday evening, scoring the game's first goal, and adding an assist on the Tommies' seventh goal of the game. In game two, Vallario tallied four blocks against the Lion's offense.

Scouting the Beavers
The Bemidji State Women's Hockey program (1-10-1, 0-8-0 WCHA) is led by Head Coach Amber Fryklund in her first season as head coach and 11th season on the coaching staff.
 
The Beavers earned their first win of the season against Lindenwood in October, posting a 6-3 win over the Lions.
 
Redshirt Freshman Isa Goettl leads the Bemidji State offense, tallying three goals and three assists in 12 games played.
 
History against the Beavers
The Tommies hold a 5-6-1 overall record against Bemidji State, including a 1-4-1 record at Sanford Center.
 
WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.

Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.
 
Record Setters
Last season, the Tommies set a DI era scoring record, totaling seven goals in a single game twice this season. 17 skaters scored goals for the Tommies, led by Ella Boerger, who found the back of the net 11 times. Boerger's 11 goals also set a record of goals scored in a single season.
 
In 37 games played, Boerger (11G, 13A – 24P), Bartz (10G, 13A – 23P), Nicole Vallario (5G, 10A – 15P), and Maddie Brown (6G, 8A - 14P) all passed the DI single season record in points scored for the Tommies.  The previous record was 13 total points set by Maddy Clough (2022-23 season).
 
Bartz, Boerger, Vallario and Maddy Clough also surpassed the single season record in assists (previously 8), and Bartz tied record for power play goals scored in a single season (3). 
 
Schedule Talk    
The Tommies travel to Tennessee to play in the Smashville Showcase over Thanksgiving weekend. St. Thomas is set to play Clarkson on Nov. 29 and Penn State or Merrimack the following day. The Smashville Showcase will mark the final non-conference games of the season, as St. Thomas will compete against WCHA opponents the remainder of the season.
 
St. Thomas ends the first half of the season hosting Minnesota Dec. 6-7, and opens the second half at Ridder Arena from Jan. 10-11. The Tommies wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against Minnesota State, playing the series finale at Saint Thomas Ice Arena on Feb. 22.
