Women’s Hockey falls to #2 Ohio State in series opener

Madison Brown scores team-leading fifth goal of the season in 5-1 defeat
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team hosted the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes for game one of a WCHA weekend series. After the Tommies posted the first goal of the game, Ohio State (10-2-2, 5-2-2 WCHA) scored five unanswered goals to defeat St. Thomas (4-4-1, 2-4-1 WCHA) on Friday afternoon.
RECAP
Madison Brown opened scoring early in game one, posting her team-leading fifth goal of the season three minutes into the first period. Ohio State quickly responded, tallying its first goal of the afternoon less than a minute later.
Midway through the first frame, the Buckeyes took the lead, scoring their second of the game and taking the 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
There were seven minutes of special teams played in the second frame. The Buckeyes went on the first player advantage, as the Tommies successfully shut down the Ohio State power play early in the second.
With 8:09 to play, Ohio State was assessed a five-minute major. Shortly after the Tommie power play began, Cara Sajevic was sent to the box, sending the game to 4-on-4 before St. Thomas went back on the player advantage. Ohio State added a short-handed goal, taking the 3-1 advantage into the final 20 minutes of play.
The Buckeyes added two third period goals, ultimately defeating the Tommies 5-1 on Friday afternoon.
Freshman forward Nora Sauer made her collegiate debut this afternoon, playing her first game in Purple against Ohio State.
