Women’s Hockey faces first setback of the season, falls to No. 5 Minnesota Duluth

Calla Frank totals 41 saves in 3-0 defeat
DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team traveled north for its first weekend road trip of the 2024-25 season. Capitalizing on three power play opportunities, #5 Minnesota Duluth (4-3-0, 3-2-0 WCHA) defeated the Tommies (4-1-0, 2-1-0 WCHA) in game one at AMSOIL Arena.
RECAP
After a scoreless start to game one at AMSOIL Arena, UMD went on the first power play of the game. Capitalizing on the player advantage, the Bulldogs took the 1-0 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the opening frame.
Calla Frank tallied 18 saves in the first, totaling a season-high of 41 saves through this afternoon's game.
UMD was called for back-to-back penalties in the second period. The Tommies added five shots on goal with the player advantage, however were unable to find the equalizer on the power play opportunities.
In the scoreless middle frame, St. Thomas outshot UMD 12-10.
Early in the final period, the Bulldogs went on back-to-back power plays. Scoring on both power play chances, UMD took the 3-0 lead with 12:07 to play. Unable to comeback from the three-goal deficit, The Bulldogs defeated the Tommies on Friday afternoon.
