The Tommies placed 12 shots on goal but could not score on the road against Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. – The Tommies (4-8-2 overall, 0-4-1 Summit League) had their chances against the best defense in the Summit League, outshooting the Omaha Mavericks (9-2-3 overall, 3-1-1 Summit League) but ultimately came up short in their 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field.
Kendell Ellis made the start in goal for the Tommies and stopped four of the five shots she faced. Lisaa Mizutani led the way for the Toms offensively with four shots-on-goal followed by Sophia Barjesteh and Annika Eckroth who each got two shots off. Abby Brantner was the only Tommie to play all 90 minutes in front of Ellis.
Recap
Neither the Tommies nor the Mavericks put a shot on net until the 11th minute when Sophia Barjesteh put one on that was stopped by Omaha's starting goalkeeper, Mia Olesen. Olesen made three saves in 45 minutes between the posts before being substituted out at halftime for Maja Baun.
Omaha scored the game's only goal in the 18th minute on a Marissa Gohr header than got by Ellis. The Tommies responded with two shots-on-goal before the halftime buzzer but were thwarted by Olesen.
The second half was more of the same for the Tommies offensively despite facing off against a new goalkeeper. St. Thomas outshot the Mavs 12-2 in the final 45 and 9-1 in shots-on-goal.
Sunday's game was very free flowing with just one corner aside and four fouls in total, three against Omaha and one against St. Thomas.
Overall, the Tommies put 12 shot-on-goal against Omaha's five.
